How to Clear History and Reset Netflix Profile

Just like any other subscription streaming service, Netflix has been keeping track of your activities, including the movies and series that you have watched and searches that you have made. Netflix is doing this to improve the suggestions for your profile. However, this history may be a little frustrating as time goes by, especially when you no longer see anything new or interesting. Fortunately, there’s a way to clear your Netflix history and reset everything without deleting your profile.

How to Delete Netflix History

Depending on the Netflix subscription plan, users can have up to five profiles on one single account. Each of these profiles will have its very own suggestions and recommendations depending on what the users are watching. If you don’t want to delete or recreate your profile, there is a way to delete your history on Netflix. These methods can be done directly on your PC or mobile devices.

Using a PC to Delete History

Here’s what you need to do to clear and reset your history using your desktop PC or laptop:

1. Go to Netflix.com.
2. In the upper right corner, click your profile icon.
3. From the dropdown, select the Account option.
4. Under Profile & Parental Controls, click the profile that you want to customize.
5. Choose the Viewing activity option from the dropdown.
6. At the very button, click the Hide all option to clear the history of the profile.

You should be getting a warning asking you to confirm that you want to hide your entire viewing activity for that profile. Once you click yes, the titles and history will no longer be used to make a recommendation for that profile. You can, however, create another recommendation by watching at least one movie or series. You can also improve the recommendation by clicking the thumbs-up button on the movie that you liked.

Using a Mobile to Delete History

Follow the steps below to reset and clear your Netflix history and recommendations using your mobile device. Unfortunately, there is no option to reset the history using the Netflix app. However, we can still make it by using a mobile web browser. In this case, we recommend using Chrome as Netflix fully supports Chrome browsers on mobile.

1. Open Chrome browser and go to Netflix.com.
2. Click the hamburger icon located in the upper left corner of the screen.
3. Click the Account option. This is just below your profile icon.
4. Scroll down until you find the Profile & Parental Controls section.
5. Click the profile that you want to customize.
6. Click the Viewing activity option from the dropdown.
7. Scroll down until you see the Hide all option then click it.

Just like on PC, you will also get a warning notice. Clicking on the yes button will clear and delete all of your Netflix history on that profile.

The Benefits of Deleting Netflix History

Deleting and clearing your history on Netflix comes with both positive and negative outcomes. The positive result will give you a chance to explore new and more content that you haven’t seen from your old profile. Since you’re watching a new movie or series, Netflix will have to re-run another algorithm test to give you a better recommendation.

As for the downside of deleting the history, you will no longer be able to get all the previous recommendations that you have. However, if you added a movie or series to My List, then you can still watch them. Watching them will also allow the algorithm to give you more recommendations.
